The Hornets waived Simmons on Wednesday.

The Scoop:Simmons appeared in the final five games for Charlotte last year, marking his first NBA appearance since 2018-19. However, after drafting Nick Smith (undisclosed) and Brandon Miller, there wasn't any room for Simmons. The Arizona product will likely have to settle for a G League deal or may head overseas again.

Kobi Simmons: Sees limited time
Simmons concluded his third season with averages of 1.0 points, 1.0 assists, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 5.6 minutes per game across five contests.

The Scoop: After signing with the team March 29, Simmons appeared in very limited fashion over the last five games of the season. The 25-year-old was a steady contributor during his limited opportunities, but he struggled to find his shot, making just one of six attempts from the field on the year. Simmons has struggled to find his footing in the NBA since his rookie season back in 2017, and it will be challenging to find a spot with the Hornets, who have plenty of guard depth.

Kobi Simmons: Sticks in rotation Friday
Simmons logged one rebound and one block over two minutes during Friday's 112-109 loss to the Rockets.

The Scoop: Simmons was in the rotation for the fourth straight game Friday, although he logged just two minutes. While it is nice to see guys like Simmons getting onto the court, there is obviously nothing to see here in terms of fantasy news.

Kobi Simmons: Lands standard contract
Simmons had his two-way deal converted to a standard contract Friday, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.

The Scoop: Simmons signed a two-way contract with the Hornets last week and has averaged 1.7 points in 6.0 minutes per game since then. Despite his limited role, he'll remain with the team on a standard deal.

Borrego compares the camp to a pre-training camp open gym type atmosphere. The team is focusing on scrimmaging over conditioning and skill drills. Borrego was hoping to get Ray Spalding and Kobi Simmons time with the Hornets down the stretch of last season, so he’s excited to see what they bring to the table in the bubble.

The Scoop: None.
