Santa Cruz Warriors forward Jonathon Simmons is signing with the Liaoning Flying Leopards of the Chinese Basketball Association, a league source confirmed with The Chronicle. The Athletic was first to report the news. Simmons, 31, is fresh off a strong showing at the Warriors’ offseason minicamp in San Francisco — so strong, in fact, that some within the organization were starting to think he had a shot at making the 15-man roster.

Jonathon Simmons had to claw his way into the NBA once before, and he may do it again. One of five G League players invited to Warriors minicamp, Simmons has impressed Golden State over the last week, and could have a chance to make the roster next season, according to head coach Steve Kerr. I think Jonathon Simmons had a really strong week at camp and still has years to offer in the NBA,” Kerr said after Thursday’s minicamp scrimmage.

The Scoop: None.
