 Agrees to join Philadelphia

The Scoop:After spending the last five seasons with the Clippers, George recently declined his player option for the 2024-25 season and informed the team that he intended to sign elsewhere. The 34-year-old will form a potent tandem in Philadelphia, joining fellow superstars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. George's main drawback during his time with the Clippers was his trouble staying on the court, but he appeared in 74 regular-season games last year, his highest mark since the 2018-19 season. He averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.8 minutes per game, and the 76ers will be a force in the Eastern Conference if George can remain healthy with his new team.

Plans to leave Clippers

The Scoop: George recently declined his $48.7 million player option with the Clippers, and he won't return to the team after the two sides had a meeting Sunday. The 76ers appear to be the favorites to sign the 34-year-old, but he'll presumably have offers from multiple suitors. Over 74 regular-season appearances last year, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 33.8 minutes per game.

Declines player option Saturday
Declines player option Saturday

The Scoop: George declining his player option now takes any hope of a trade off the table for the Clippers. The All-Star will plan on meeting with several teams who have the cap space to sign him, the Clippers included. George was tasked with carrying the offensive load in the playoffs during Kawhi Leonard's (knee) absence last season, and the Clippers' refusal to extend him on a four-year maximum contract likely resulted in him becoming a free agent. The 34-year-old averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals across 33.8 minutes in 74 regular-season games. Moreover, George also averaged 47.1 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three, both career highs for the 14-year veteran.

Scores 18 points in Game 6 defeat
George amassed 18 points (6-18 FG, 2-10 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal over 42 minutes during Friday's 114-101 loss to the Mavericks in Game 6 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Scoop: George was asked to carry the Clippers offensively in the absence of Kawhi Leonard (knee), but he ended the series on a sour note, as he couldn't reach the 20-point mark in three of his last four appearances. In fact, George surpassed the 22-point mark just once in the six contests against the Mavericks, and his numbers throughout the series were disappointing. He averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from three-point range. That marked a clear decline compared to his regular-season figures, and it might be fair to wonder if the Clippers are going to bring him back for 2024-25 or if they might look at potential trade options during the offseason.

Lifts offensively in Game 4 victory
George recorded 33 points (11-19 FG, 7-10 3Pt, 4-7 FT), six rebounds, eight assists, one block and four steals across 43 minutes during Sunday's 116-111 win over the Mavericks in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Scoop: George led all players in Sunday's contest in threes made while ending with a team-high-tying point total and leading all Clippers players in assists and steals to help Los Angeles get a much-needed win to even the series with Dallas entering Game 5. George's point and assist totals were his highest of the series thus far, and he's tallied at least 20 points in three straight games. George and James Harden will need to continue to lead the Clippers as they attempt to take a series lead in Game 5 in Los Angeles.
