James was released by the Kings on Sunday, Jason Jones of The Athletic reports.

The Scoop:James' salary with the Kings was set to be guaranteed for the season unless if he got cut today. The 24-year-old has played for the Kings the last two seasons and only saw 7.6 minutes per game. In his final season with Sacramento, James averaged 3.9 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 36 appearances. The guard will look to sign with a team in need of a sharpshooting three-point specialist.

Justin James: Out for season finale
James has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jazz with a sprained right ankle.

The Scoop: The 24-year-old averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 28.5 assists and was primed for heavy minutes in the season finale, but he'll instead by sidelined by an ankle sprain. James appeared in 36 games for the Kings this season and averaged 8.6 minutes.

Justin James: Comes close to double-double
James recorded 16 points (5-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 6-8 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and a steal across 25 minutes off the bench in Friday's loss at Memphis.

The Scoop: James has surpassed the 15-point mark in each of his last two games and also posted a season-best mark in both rebounds and assists. With the Kings likely to rest several regulars for the season finale Sunday, James might be in line for a big role off the bench once again.

Justin James: Notches career-best scoring effort
James scored 31 points (12-17 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and corralled four rebounds over 32 minutes Thursday in a loss to Memphis.

The Scoop: James came off the bench in the contest but logged 32 minutes and led all players in scoring. His 31 points nearly doubled his previous career high of 16 points set at the end of April. James' opportunities to contribute have been very limited this season, but he could get some extra run over the team's final two games now that Sacramento is officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Justin James: Goes for 16 points in blowout loss
James finished with 16 points (6-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT) in 17 minutes during Wednesday's 154-105 loss to the Jazz.

The Scoop: This was a garbage-time special for James who simply got hot to close the game. He is barely in the rotation on most nights, so while this was a nice moment for James, GMs can simply smile and move on.
