The most optimistic way of looking at Jerian Grant’s stint with the Wizards this season is that it’s a small sample size (just 80 total minutes) that doesn’t represent his true performance level. When I analyzed his history before the bubble, he looked like someone who could be a decent backup at the NBA level. His play in Orlando was disastrous — in my Player Production Average metric he scored a 2.

WASHINGTON - The Washington Wizards are adding a little more hometown hustles to their squad. The Wizards – who will return to the court in July when the NBA returns – announced that they’d signed Silver Spring native and DeMatha High School product Jerian Grant. Grant won’t have far to go to practice – he’s been with the Capital City Go-Go this past season.

The Washington Wizards plan on signing Jerian Grant on July 1 to fill Davis Bertans’ vacancy, according to Chris Miller of NBC Sports Washington. Grant, is a four-year NBA veteran, where he spent time with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic. He spent the 2019-20 basketball season with the Capital City Go-Go, where he averaged 16.3 points and 5.9 assists per game while also averaging 43.5 percent (1.6 made attempts) of his shots from the three point line.

It is a full-circle story: Jerian Grant, the former Wizards’ ball boy and son of former Bullets player Harvey Grant, signed with his father’s former team. The younger Grant signed with the Wizards for the NBA’s restart down in Orlando, a story broken by Chris Miller of NBC Sports Washington. Grant will take the roster spot of Davis Bertans, as the sharpshooting big man and free agent to chose not to head to Orlando in what is a smart business decision — one called out by Evan Fournier of the Magic.

The Scoop: None.
