Plays 22 minutes vs. Golden State

The Scoop:Jones and Kobe Brown were the only two players in Saturday's preseason opener to see over 20 minutes of playing time. Jones is competing for a backup role on the Clippers' regular-season roster behind starting center Ivica Zubac, and the former got an extended look Saturday due to Mo Bamba (knee) not playing. Jones didn't play in 2023-24 due to personal reasons and a hamstring strain late in the regular season. He played in 46 regular-season games in 2022 with the Hornets and averaged 3.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.7 blocks across 12.0 minutes per game.

Full-go in practice
Coach Tyronn Lue said Tuesday that Jones (ankle) is good to go for practice, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.

The Scoop: Jones appears to have fully recovered from the ankle injury that kept him out of Summer League. The 23-year-old big man will now have the opportunity to compete for a regular-season roster spot during training camp.

Lands non-guaranteed deal
Jones (ankle) agreed to a non-guaranteed deal with the Clippers on Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

The Scoop: The Clippers declined Jones' team option in late June, but he'll rejoin the team and compete for a roster spot ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. The 23-year-old won't participate in Summer League play due to an ankle injury, and it's unclear whether he'll have limitations when training camp rolls around.

Battling ankle injury
Jones won't participate in Summer League due to an ankle injury, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.

The Scoop: Jones became an unrestricted free agent when the Clippers declined to pick up his team option June 29, and he'll miss out on the opportunity to showcase his abilities in Summer League. Instead, the 23-year-old will have to rely on what he put on tape during two games with the 76ers' G League affiliate to garner interest on the open market. In those two games, Jones averaged 11.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 blocks over 23.9 minutes.

Could return to LAC
Could return to LAC

The Scoop: Jones was a first-round pick in 2021 for the Hornets, and he was immediately marked as an athlete with tremendous potential. However, the 23-year-old has failed to leave his mark in the pros, and he did not log any playing time with the Clippers in the 2023-24 season. Jones will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and could potentially return to the Clippers.
