 Staying with Lakers

The Scoop:James staying in Los Angeles was never in any real doubt, and he'll now have the opportunity to play alongside his son, Bronny James. James' contract includes a player option for the second season and a no-trade clause. Heading into his age-40 season, James showed in 2023-24 that he still has plenty left in the tank, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 2.1 three-pointers during the regular season.

The Scoop: James intends to opt out of his player option to sign a new deal with the Lakers. Now that the team drafted his son, Bronny James, the expectation is that the 39-year-old returns on a new deal next season that would likely include a no-trade clause. The four-time NBA Champion averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals while shooting a career-high 41.0 percent from deep last season.

Leads LA with 30 points
James produced 30 points (11-21 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 5-7 FT), nine rebounds, 11 assists and four steals in 44 minutes during Monday's 108-106 loss to the Nuggets in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Scoop: James did everything in his power to extend the opening-round matchup, including playing all but four minutes of Game 5, but it wasn't enough to get the job done. The 39-year-old forward poured in 30 points in each of the last two games and consistently packed the stat sheet throughout the series, averaging 27.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.0 blocks over five appearances.

Available for Game 5
James (ankle) has been cleared to play in Monday's Game 5 against Denver, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.

The Scoop: James and Anthony Davis (wrist) were each listed as probable to suit up, and they've both been given the green light for Monday's clash. James is coming off a 30-point performance in Game 4 and will need to produce at a high level again in Game 5 to give his team a chance to extend the series.

Probable for Game 5
James (ankle) is probable for Monday's Game 5 against the Nuggets, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.

The Scoop: James continues to deal with left ankle peroneal tendinopathy ahead of Game 5, but he'll likely be able to suit up once again. Over the first four matchups in the series, he's averaged 27.3 points, 8.3 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 40.0 minutes per game.
