Horford, Schroder lead Hawks in 101-87 victory over Nets

ATLANTA (AP) Coach Mike Budenholzer got just what he wanted from the Atlanta Hawks in the second half.

The Hawks did nearly everything right offensively, scoring 60 points, hitting 59 percent of their shots, handing out 16 assists and committing just six turnovers on Wednesday night.

"When the ball moves and you get in rhythm, you're going to shoot a better percentage," Budenholzer said. "You're going to feel more confident."

Al Horford scored 21 points, Dennis Schroder added 20 and the Hawks won their fifth straight game, 101-87 over the Brooklyn Nets.

Brook Lopez finished with a season-high 27 points and Thaddeus Young had 14 for Brooklyn, which dropped to 0-5.

Lopez was disappointed in his team's 19 turnovers, which led to 25 points.

"They play the pick-and-roll very aggressively, and their hands are up and active," Lopez said. "It's tough to make plays out of that."

Jeff Teague had 16 points and six assists and Paul Millsap had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks.

After going 1 for 7 from the field with four turnovers in first half, Schroder had a strong start in the third, hitting three 3s, a pair of layups and assisting on two baskets by Horford.

"That first half, everybody missed open shots," Schroder said. "In the second half, we picked up our intensity on defense. Played team defense and played with the same pace on offense."

The Hawks took the game's first double-digit lead when Schroder hit a pair of free throws to make it 95-84 with 4:21 remaining. Atlanta began the third quarter with a two-point lead.

Lopez was 11 for 16 from the field. Nets forward Joe Johnson went 1 for 10, including 0 for 3 on 3-pointers, and finished with five points.

TIP-INS

There were 14 lead changes. ... Lopez and Young combined for 21 rebounds. ... Atlanta has won six straight in the regular-season series. The Nets' last regular-season win came Jan. 16, 2014, in a game played in London. ... The Hawks have won 29 straight at Philips Arena when holding teams under 100 points.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Hawks G Kyle Korver, who hit 23 3-pointers in Atlanta's six-game playoff win over Brooklyn last season, was given the night off to rest his surgically repaired right ankle. Schroder replaced the 13-year veteran in the starting lineup. ... Nets G Jarrett Jack started his fourth straight game, but is still dealing with a sore left hamstring that kept him out of the season opener. Jack finished with six points on 3 of 10 shooting.

STOP THE SKID

The Nets are off to their worst since they went 0-18 to begin the 2009-2010 season. They never led after Tiago Splitter's dunk made it 72-70 in the closing seconds of the third. Brooklyn blew a chance to win Monday at home when Milwaukee scored the game's final nine points.

"I don't think anybody's happy to be in this position to start the season," Jack said. "We've got to come out with a mentality of a desperate team trying to get a win on Friday."

TOUGH TIME BEYOND THE ARC

The Nets went 5 of 21 on 3s and are shooting 24.4 percent beyond the arc, second-worst in the NBA. Johnson is just 3 of 15.
